Check the Spark Plug

If there’s damage or deposits, we replace the spark plug otherwise we check the gap and put it back in.

Inspect the Belts

Wear and tear? Cracks? If so, we replace them.

Inspect Paddles

The auger paddles are the hardest working parts on your snow blower, so check them often for wear and tear if they don’t hit the ground anymore, we replace them.

Check the Shave Plate

This scrapes the snow off your driveway. If it’s worn on a single-stage snow blower, we reverse it. For a two-stage snow blower, we replace it.

Flip the Skid Shoes (2-Stage Models)

These are the adjustable pieces on a two-stage snow blower that let you set the height of your auger. Most are reversible. If yours look worn, flip the over and use the other side, making a note to replace them next year.

Inspect the Shear Pins for Damage

Shear pins connect the auger to the gear case. Did you know they’re meant to break? It’s a safety feature – they’ll break if the auger and gear case are overloaded.

Change the Oil

A snowblower takes the same kind of oil that a standard vehicle does, but snowblower oil does not need to be changed every three months like a car. Change the oil at the end of the season and the beginig of the season. This way the old oil will not get a chance to turn to sludge inside the engine and cause problems when you try and start the snowblower.

Fresh Gas with Stabilizer

Feldmann will fill ‘er up with fresh gas and make sure to include fuel stabilizer. It’ll keep the gas fresh longer and help prevent clogs.

Post-Season Maintenace Service

Identify parts that need to be replaced

Each manufacturer has a list of parts which need to be replaced at the end of each season. Fledmann Power will inspect and replace the worn parts based on the manufacturer’s list.

Inspect the shave plate and skid shoes

Check the shave plate and skid shoes for wear. If the shave plate shows signs of wear, check to see if you can reverse it? many shave plates have two wearing edges and can be reversed.

Empty the fuel tank

At the end of the snow blowing season, you never want to keep fuel in your snow blower, even if the gas is stabilized; always drain the tank.

Storing fuel long-term in any type of gas engine is not recommended because of the issues caused by old gas corroding and gunk building up inside your tank. It is extremely challenging to clean a carburetor or replace fuel lines that have cracked or gunked up because fuel was left in the lines/tank.

To avoid this hassle and be sure there’s no fuel left in the system, simply run the snowblower until the remaining gas burns out.

Examine the gear shaft and oil the hex shaft

We remove the lower frame cover from the underside of the unit & check the gear shaft and apply a light coating of oil to the hex shaft. We also check the rubber friction disc for wear and cracking.

Inspect belts

Remove the belt cover and inspect the belt(s) for wear. Replace belts as necessary. Reinstall the plastic belt cover.

Examine the auger

Check the auger’s rubber paddles for damage and wear. Replace as necessary.

Check the Spark Plug

If there’s damage or deposits, we replace the spark plug otherwise we check the gap and put it back in.

Clean areas near the engine and muffler

We will clean debris from around the engine and muffler and apply a light coating of oil on any areas that are susceptible to rust. To further prevent rust, we will wipe away dried salt that may have accumulated.
